TEANECK, N.J. -Strong pitching was enough to hold the FDU (20-22, 12-5 NEC) bats down as Central Connecticut (20-12, 11-6 NEC) came away with the win 13-4.
How it happened
- The Blue Devils took an early lead with four runs in the top of the second.
- Central Connecticut extended its lead to 7-0 with back-to-back home runs in the top of the fifth.
- The Knights responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. George Rosales scored off an RBI single to center field by Luke Cantwell, and Joan Sosa's RBI single to center field drove in Tom Ruscitti.
- CCSU hit a two-run home run and a two-RBI double in the top of the seventh, making the score 11-2.
- The Blue Devils added two more runs in the top of the eighth.
- Hunter D'Amato blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Justin Sierra, but it was not enough to catch up to Central Connecticut. The Knights finished the game with four runs and 13 safe hits.
Inside the box
- Rich Racobaldo (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs and striking out three.
- Ruscitti went 3-4, registering one run, two doubles, and a walk.
- Sierra finished 1-4 with one run and two stolen bases.
- Sosa went 2-4 with one RBI.
- D'Amato finished 1-5 with two RBIs, one run, and a home run.
