TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (20-21, 12-4 NEC) dropped the first game of their three-game series against Central Connecticut (19-12, 10-6 NEC) 9-7 in 13 innings at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Friday afternoon.
How it happened
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring with three unearned runs in the top of the third.
- Hunter D'Amato scored the first run for the Knights in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double to left-center by Tom Ruscitti, and then Ruscitti reached home on a double play.
- George Rosales scored in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to center field by Ruscitti to tie the game at 3-3.
- FDU took the lead in the seventh after a two-RBI double to left field by D'Amato, driving in Rosales and Joan Sosa.
- Central Connecticut scored two runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 5-5.
- The Knights regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Tommy Verga scored on an RBI single to center field by Brelon Harden, and D'Amato drew a walk with the bases loaded, allowing Harden to score and extend the lead to 7-5.
- In the ninth, the Blue Devils hit a two-run home run, forcing both teams to go for extra innings.
- After three scoreless innings, CCSU scored two runs to pull away with the win.
Inside the box
- Jake Simon (3-3) took the loss, striking out two and allowing two runs.
- D'Amato went 2-5 with three RBIs, one run, and one double.
- Ruscitti went 2-5 with two RBIs, one run, one stolen base, and a double.
