Baseball Completes Series Sweep Against Bryant

TEANECK, N.J. -In the final contest of the series, the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (14-17, 7-2 NEC) swept Bryant (11-17, 3-6 NEC) with a 10-6 victory on Sunday afternoon. 

With the victory, the Knights swept their second conference series and now are 14-17 overall and 7-2 in NEC play. 

How it happened 

  • The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a run in the second inning.  
  • FDU responded with a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Tommy Verga scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Tom Ruscitti.  
  • Bryant regained the lead in the fourth 5-1 highlighted by a two-run home run.  
  • The Knights tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run by Verga, driving Hunter D'Amato and George Rosales in, and a solo home run by Ruscitti. 
  • The Bulldogs retook the lead in the top of the fifth with a run on a single.   
  • The Knights regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Rosales scored off a grounded out to shortstop, and Zack Will's single to right field allowed D'Amato to score, making it 7-6.  
  • Ruscitti added another run in the seventh on a double to left field by TJ Werner.   
  • The Knights extended their lead in the eighth 10-6. Rosales scored off an RBI-triple to right field by D'Amato, and then Verga singled to center to drive in D'Amato. 

Inside the box 

  • Jude Baxt earned his first win by going two innings, striking out two, and not allowing runs. Brendan Medoro took the save after striking out two in the last two innings of play.    
  • Verga went 3-5 with five RBI, two runs and a triple.   
  • Rosales finished 4-4 with three runs.  
  • D'Amato went 3-4, scoring three runs, one RBI, a triple, and a walk.  
  • Werner finished 2-3 with one RBI, a double, and two walks.
Game Notes
  • The win by FDU completed the first-ever sweep by a Northeastern Conference opponent against Bryant since they joined the league in 2010.

The Burgundy and Blue are scheduled to play Saint Peter's on Tuesday April 12 at 3 PM at the Joseph J. Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, N.J.
