JERSEY CITY, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (15-17, 7-2 NEC) defeated the Saint Peter's Peacocks (4-25, 1-6 MAAC) 10-8 at the Jaroschak Field Tuesday afternoon.
How it happened
- The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Hunter D'Amato scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Tom Ruscitti.
- Saint Peter's responded with six runs in the bottom of the first.
- After a scoreless inning, George Rosales added a run on an RBI sacrifice fly to left field by TJ Werner.
- Brenden Harden scored off an RBI single to right field by D'Amato in the top of the fourth.
- FDU tied the game in the top of the fifth. Ruscitti scored on a ground out to shortstop by Werner, and then Matthew Puello reached home on a sacrifice fly to the left by Harden. Rosales doubled to center field, advancing D'Amato to third and allowing William Pope to score to make the score 6-6.
- The Peacocks retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth by two runs scored on RBI singles.
- The Knights scored one in the top of the sixth. Tom Ruscitti stole third and scored on an error by the catcher to make it 7-8.
- Sierra and Rosales scored in the top of the seventh on a 2-RBI double to center field by Luke Cantwell, making it 9-8.
- FDU held on to secure the win over Saint Peter's with one last run in the eight by Werner.
Inside the box
- Ian Barrett earned the win for coming in the fifth inning, striking out two, and not allowing any runs. Michael DiMartino took the save for striking out three in the last inning of play.
- D'Amato went 3-5 with 1 RBI, a run, and a walk.
- Rosales finished 4-5 and registered two doubles, two runs, and one RBI.
Next Up
The Knights travel to Emmitsburg, MD., to face Mount St. Mary's on a three-game series this weekend. The first pitch in game one is set for Thursday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
