WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The FDU Knights took on the Monmouth Hawks in a midweek matchup that resulted in a 5-3 loss for FDU.
The Knights turned to
Cooper Montelbano on the mound to get the game rolling, but quickly utilized the bullpen to keep things new.
Zach Winter, Joeseph Barbarino,
Ian Barrett,
Logan Magdits, and
Nick Noble all made appearances out of the bullpen for the Knights and tallied a total of four strikeouts and only allowed five runs on eight hits.
The Hawks jumped in front first with an RBI single in the first inning and tacked on three more runs in the second inning off a bases clearing double to give them a quick 4-0 advantage.
The Knights however started chipping at the Monmouth lead with a single off the bat of
Jimmy Mantuano in the third inning to score their first run of the game and cut the deficit to three, but Monmouth answered immediately with a solo homerun in the fourth to once again give them a four run lead.
FDU threatened in the fifth inning scoring two runs with an RBI double off the bat of Mantuano and a single from
Johnathan Gomez to bring the game within two. However, the Knights and the Hawks defense was a wall the remained of the game not allowing another run for either team to finalize a 5-3 loss for the Knights.
