Knights Drop Two to Binghamton and Stetson

DELAND, FL – FDU softball (0-4, 0-0) dropped two games in the Frank Griffin Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell in a close game to Binghamton by a score of 2-1, and were shutout by Stetson 5-0 in game two.

vs. Binghamton
The Knights suffered a tough loss to Binghamton on Saturday morning to start off their day. FDU fell 2-1 in seven innings. The Knights sent Julia Swan out to pitch to begin the day. Swan had an excellent showing for the Knights, shutting down Binghamton for majority of the game. Swan gave up two runs on three hits in the opening frame, putting the Knights in an early hole. She locked in after that, however. Swan pitched six shutout innings after the first, giving up just two hits during the remainder of the game. The Knights were unable to overcome more offensive struggles, unable to pull ahead despite Swan's excellent performance. They picked up a run in the third when Sydney Newton scored on a fielding error by Binghamton first baseman Emma Lawson. The score stood at 2-1 all the way until the final inning. With the Knights down to their last out, Madison Rishel picked up a big double to put the tying run in scoring position. Isabella Herring came up to the plate with a chance to tie the game, but popped out to end the game.

vs. Stetson
The Knights offensive struggles carried over to their afternoon bout against the Hatters. The Knights fell 5-0 in seven innings to finish up day two of the Frank Griffin Classic. Freshmen provided a bright spot for FDU despite the loss. Mikayla Conklin and Kailee O'Sullivan each went 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Knights will be back for a match-up with Binghamton on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. Live stats will be available on FDUKnights.com
