WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – FDU's 2024 season came to an end last night on day two of the NEC Championship at Heritage Financial Park. The six-seeded Knights fell to #3 Merrimack by a score of 7-6.
FDU was able to build a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but this quicky vanished when Merrimack answered with one run in the first and a two-run homer in the second. After two, they led 3-2.
The Knights tied the game in the fifth and then took the lead on a 3-RBI bases clearing triple by
Jeremy Cheeseman in the sixth. Despite falling behind again, Merrimack answered with three runs of their own in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.
Merrimack would take the lead in again in the eighth and hang on to win 7-6.
Chris Mattioli and
Joey Kosowsky got FDU through this game on the mound. Mattioli went five innings and allowed three runs, while Kosowsky pitched the other three and allowed four (three earned).
FDU produced seven hits at the plate, including two each from
Nate Dudeck and
Brian Sanders.
FDU finishes the season 26-30 overall and 18-14 in conference play.
