Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, MASS.- FDU dropped the third game of the weekend untimely losing the series to Merrimack.
Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound for the Knights and picked up right where she left off. Shroyer was able to sit down the first 12 batters of the game in order while striking out eight.
FDU's offense tried to get something going in the second inning with an Andreya Flores single to left field providing some hope. Megan Berg grounded out to the pitcher, and Celeste Quezada flied out to left field, leaving Flores stranded on base.
Angela Costa drew a walk as the first batter in the third inning but could not advance past first base, as Finley Caringer grounded out to third base, and Isabella Herring lined into a double play, ending the inning.
FDU's offense looked to get things going once again in the fourth but Erika Barela's two out single lead to nothing as she was left stranded on first base.
The Knights went quiet in the fifth as they couldn't muster any hits and were retired in one-two-three order.
Merrimack's offense showed its first sign of life, with a double to right field, their first hit of the game. They couldn't capitalize on it, leaving the runner stranded on second after two consecutive outs.
FDU's offense remained stagnant, with no hits and three quick outs in the sixth inning.
Shroyer continued to dominate on the mound, retiring Merrimack's batters with three quick outs, including two strikeouts and a ground out bringing her total strikeouts to 11 on the day. This impressive performance extends her streak to four consecutive games with 10 or more strikeouts and marks her 11th such game of the season.
Andreya Flores was able reach base on an error, but the Knights couldn't bring her home, as Merrimack's defense held strong, ending the inning with no runs scored.
Merrimack was sat down in order in the seventh by Shroyer to extend the game into extra innings.
FDU's offense continued to struggle in the eighth, as they failed to get a runner on base.
The Warriors worked a walk in the eighth but couldn't convert it into any runs as Shroyer recorded another two strikeouts to bring her total to 14 on the day.
The Knights were able to get two runners on in the ninth inning but couldn't bring any runners home, as Merrimack's defense converted a double play to end the inning.
Despite a strong stellar pitching performance from Brooklyn Shroyer, Merrimack's offense managed to capitalize on a late-game opportunity, securing the victory.
Brooklyn Shroyer had another impressive performance, allowing only 1 run which was unearned on 2 hits with 15 strikeouts over 8.1 innings pitched. However, she was handed the loss due to lack of run support from FDU's offense.
The Knights head home to take on Sacred Heart in a makeup game scheduled for April 16th, at 3 PM.
