Despite Strong Start for Mattioli, Knights Fall to Sharks 3-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The FDU Knights (13-19, 9-7) continued their three-game series against the LIU Sharks (14-16, 12-5) with game two resulting in a 3-2 loss for the Knights.

Junior right-handed pitcher Chris Mattioli picked up his first career start for the Knights. Mattioli pitched a solid 6.2 innings striking out five of the 27 batters he faced on the day. The right-hander only allowed three hits and two walks with one earned run.

The Knights got on the board first in the top of the fifth with a ball drilled up the middle by Joey DiMotta to score Joan Sosa and Hunter D'Amato. With this hit, the Knights took a 2-0 lead over the Sharks.

LIU scored a lone run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run off the bat of Carlton Harper.

The Sharks struck again in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead with a runner on first and Jack Power at the plate who hit a two-run homerun. This gave the Sharks their first lead of the day bringing the score to 3-2.

The Knights didn't find an answer to the one run deficit ultimately falling to the Sharks 3-2.

We saw Joey Kosowsky make a relief appearance pitching the final 1.1 inning. He faced seven batters and allowed two runs in the loss.

The Knights managed to pick up eight hits and five walks in today's game. Sosa and D'Amato picked up multi-hit games with two hits each. DiMotta, Brian Sanders, Nate Dudeck, and Zack Will all recorded one hit each.
