LUBBOCK, Texas – The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team finished out its weekend at Texas Tech by dropping a 10-1 neutral site contest to Marist in five innings.
The Knights (4-11) scored their run in the fourth inning when junior
Rylie Schmeh singled to right and scored sophomore
Jillian Ward from second, making it a 3-1 score at the time.
The Red Foxes (10-9) scored the first three runs of the game in the first and third innings before adding seven more runs in the fifth inning.
Freshmen
Savannah Thornell and
Jagger Datan tallied hits for FDU as well, with Thornell hitting a double down the left field line in the fourth inning to start FDU's scoring rally. The two-bagger was Thornell's third this season.
Junior
Abby England pitched 4.1 innings for the Knights in suffering the loss, striking out five batters to increase her season total to 33 in 26.2 innings pitched.
The Knights travel back to New Jersey for their home opener on Wednesday, March 11, against St. John's, with first pitch at FDU Softball Field scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
