LUBBOCK, Texas – The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team dropped both of its first two games at Texas Tech to start the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, losing to Marist, 9-0, and to host Texas Tech, 17-0.
The Knights (3-9) totaled three hits, with senior
Summer Mendoza roping a double against Texas Tech in the third inning. Freshman
Jalyse Hanson also singled for FDU's second hit against the Red Raiders (13-9).
Marist drove in the opening run of the first game in the bottom of the second on a bunt single. The Red Foxes (8-8) later added two more runs in the third inning to make it 3-0. FDU produced its only hit on a
Madison Emerson single up the middle to lead off the fourth inning, but Marist then held FDU without a base runner the rest of the game while adding two more runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to end the game.
Sophomore
Alayna Savaglio took the loss against Marist, allowing three earned runs and striking out one batter in 2.2 innings pitched. She also pitched 2.2 innings of relief against Texas Tech, striking out four batters. Freshman
Malori Bell struck out two batters in three innings of relief work against Marist, allowing six hits and four earned runs.
FDU takes on Delaware State at 1:30 p.m., CT, and Texas Tech again at 6:30 p.m., CT, in the second day of the three-day tournament on Saturday.
