Box Score 2 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team split a doubleheader with Sacred Heart on Saturday evening. The Knights are now 12-12 on the season and 4-3 in Northeast Conference play, Sacred Heart is 12-11 and 6-1 in conference. The teams will complete their four game series with a single game on Sunday.
Redshirt junior
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) earned the victory in game two to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Knights dropped the first game, a continuation from Friday, by a score of 2-0 and then won the second game 5-4.
GAME ONESaturday's first game was the continuation of the seven inning game that began on Friday. The game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning with the bases loaded and two outs. When the game resumed on Saturday, the Pioneers were able to plate a pair of runs.
The two runs turned out to be the only scores of the game as Sacred Heart went on to win 2-0.
The Knights actually out-hit the Pioneers 7-4, but the Pioneers capitalized on six walks by FDU pitching and three Knight errors.
Freshman
Chris Kachmar (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) took the loss allowing two unearned runs in 2.2 innings. He is now 3-1 on the season. Kachmar was removed before the game resumed on Saturday, but the runners on base were his responsibility.
Junior
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) and senior
Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) each had two hits in the game. Senior
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), freshman
Evan McDonald (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) and senior
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) all had base hits.
Jeff Stoddard earned the victory for Sacred Heart to improve to 1-0.
GAME TWOA two-run double by Sprague in the fourth inning gave the Knights a 4-3 lead and Giakas followed with a RBI single to score what would prove to be the game-winning run.
After surrendering single runs in the first, second and third innings Frati locked in and held the Pioneers scoreless over the next three innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six over six innings to earn his fourth win of the season.
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) came on to pitch the seventh for his sixth save of the season. He allowed a run on one hit and struck out two.
Roman drove in the Knights first run with a double down the right field line in the second inning and FDU picked up its second run on a RBI ground out by senior
Patrick McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) in the third.
Senior
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) also picked up a base hit in the victory.
Sacred Heart held an 8-5 advantage in hits, but the Knights capitalized on three Pioneer errors.
The series will conclude with a single nine inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
