NORWICH, Conn. - FDU baseball concluded the 2022 season Friday as the fourth-seeded Knights were defeated by the #3 CCSU Blue Devils at Dodd Stadium 10-6 in an elimination game of the 2022 Northeast Conference Tournament. The Knights finished the campaign with a record of 24-30, and 16-11 in the NEC.
How it happened
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning.
- FDU answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Justin Sierra scored on a walk, then Joan Sosa reached home on an RBI single to right field by Brelon Harden. Tom Ruscitti scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by David Bordieri Jr.
- The Knights extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the second with Ruscitti's RBI double to center field, driving in Sierra.
- Bordieri blasted a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the third to increase the lead to 6-2.
- After four scoreless innings, CCSU retook the lead with a five-run eighth inning, registering an RBI single to right-center and a grand slam to right field.
- The Blue Devils scored three more runs in the top of the ninth to make the final score 10-6.
- FDU finished the game with seven hits, six runs, and two errors.
Inside the box
- Jake Simon (4-4) took the loss giving up three runs.
- Ruscitti went 1-3 with one run, one RBI, and a double.
- Harden went 1-4 with one RBI and one stolen base.
- Sierra went 1-4 with two runs, one walk, and two stolen bases, breaking the FDU single-season record with 35 stolen bases in the 2022 campaign.
- Bordieri went 1-3 with one run, three RBIs, and one home run.
