TEANECK, N.J. -Junior outfielder Justin Sierra blasted two home runs and powered the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (11-18, 5-1 NEC) to a 12-4 victory in their series opener against Bryant (11-15, 3-4 NEC) on Friday afternoon.
How it happened
- The Knights took the lead 4-0 in the first two innings with three home runs. George Rosales hit a two-run homer in the first, and then Justin Sierra and Joan Sosa got two back-to-back solo homers in the second.
- The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the third and fourth to tie the game 4-4.
- Justin Sierra blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, driving Devin Pelletier in. In the same inning, Hunter D'Amato scored off an error by the catcher, making it 7-4.
- FDU extended its lead with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Luke Cantwell and D'Amato scored off a 2-RBI double to left field by Tommy Verga, and Tom Ruscitti doubled to center field, allowing Verga to score.
- Matthew Milone scored on a double play in the bottom of the seventh, and Sierra added a run after an RBI double down to the right-field line by D'Amato, to make the final score 12-4.
Inside the box
- Jake Simon earned the win by going two innings, striking out one, and not allowing any runs. Brendan Medoro struck out five in the last three innings of play.
- Sosa went 3-4 with a walk and two runs.
- Sierra finished 2-3, registering three RBI and three runs.
- Rosales went 1-2 with two RBI, three walks, and one run.
- Verga registered two RBI and a double.
