TRENTON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (20-19, 12-3 NEC) secured the series win on Sunday afternoon by defeating Wagner (10-17, 7-8 NEC) 6-1. The Knights took two out of the three games from the Seahawks over the weekend.
How it happened
- FDU opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning. Hunter D'Amato scored off an RBI double to right field by Tom Ruscitti, followed by Luke Cantwell's two-RBI double down the first baseline, allowing Ruscitti and George Rosales to score.
- An error by the shortstop allowed Tommy Verga to reach base, and Ruscitti scored in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0.
- Wagner responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to catch up to FDU.
- Cantwell blasted a two-run home run, driving in Ruscitti to finish the game with six runs and ten safe hits.
Quote from Head Coach Rob DiToma:
"I can't say enough about the resiliency of our team. Friday was a hard-fought battle where we came from behind in the ninth, and after Wagner did a great job of shutting down our offense yesterday, it was very important for our offense to have some great at-bats today early. And we did. And Joey Kosowsky was absolutely amazing on the mound today. He commanded the game from the second inning on. It was a great team effort, top to bottom. Very proud of the effort."
Inside the box
- Kosowsky earned his fifth win by going 7.0 innings, striking out five, and allowing only one run.
- Ruscitti went 3-5 with three runs, one RBI, and a double.
- Cantwell finished 2-4 with four RBIs, a run, a double, and a home run.
