Men's Soccer Announces 2017 Recruiting Class

TEANECK, N.J. -- Head coach Seth Roland and the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer program announced the 11 members of the Knights' 2017 recruiting class on Friday morning.

In regards to this year's recruiting class, Roland said, "This is a group of young men that I expect will help the FDU men's soccer program take a confident step forward in our rebuilding process."

In addition to the 10 members listed below, this class includes Fredlin Mompremier, an All-American midfielder from the University of Tampa, who transferred into Fairleigh Dickinson in January.

"Assistant Coach Dave Janezic has done an outstanding job on the recruiting trail, and we have worked very hard to bring in a group that will help us grow as a program. Each individual brings a unique talent to the playing field, and we look forward to helping them develop as student-athletes."

Diego Arribas - 5'11" Forward - Madrid, Spain

Arribas played for Rayo Majadahonda in 2016-17 in Spain's Division de Honor and scored nine goals. In 2015-16, he played for Alcobendas CF in Spain's Liga Nacional and netted 14 goals.

Roland on Arribas: 
"I saw Diego play in Spain and was extremely impressed with his energy, work ethic, and ability to create danger in the attacking third. His passion for the game is impressive, and his relentless desire to succeed will present challenges to opposing defenders...they will grow weary trying to keep up with his constant movement off the ball."

Adrian Barajas - 6'5" Midfielder - Freehold, N.J.

Barajas played his high school soccer at Freehold Township High School where he was named First Team All-State and First Team All-Shore in 2016. Additionally, he was a two-time All-County First Team selection (2015, 2016) and Second Team All-State in 2015. The new Knight also played for the nation's top-ranked club team in Marlboro SC, which won the 2016 U.S. Club Championships. At Marlboro, he was a teammate of Christian Fryc, Rocky Garretson, and Nark Miranda at the 2016 U.S. Club National Champion Marlboro SC.

Roland on Barajas: "Adrian is a talented player who comes to our program from the # 1 ranked club team in the country.  He has been a stalwart in their midfield for the past few years. He has a unique ability to make those around him better with his ability to read the game and play intelligent passes."

Mason Comer - 6' Midfielder - Stuart, Fla.

Comer played for South Fork High School and for FC Florida Prep Academy, who was ranked No. 1 in Florida. While at South Fork, Comer earned Team MVP honors and was also a team captain. 

Roland on Comer: "Mason is a relentless and skillful midfielder who will be able to compete anywhere across the midfield – centrally or out wide. He has composure, good vision, and an engine that drives him to constantly look to break-up plays defensively, and contribute to the attack offensively."

Brandon Fernandes - 5'7" Midfielder - Boonton, N.J.

Fernandes comes to FDU after playing club soccer for TSF Academy and his high school soccer at Parsippany Hills High School. In 2015, he earned First Team All-County and Second Team All-State honors in New Jersey.

Roland on Fernandes: "Brandon is a creative midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball. He is a good connector in the middle of the field, covers a lot of ground, and has a high soccer IQ. He's versatile enough to play anywhere in the midfield."

Christian Fryc - 6'4" Defender - Jackson, N.J.

Fryc comes to Teaneck from Jackson Memorial High School. He was a teammate of Barajas, Rocky Garretson, and Nark Miranda at the 2016 U.S. Club National Champion Marlboro SC. In 2016, Fryc earned All-Conference First Team honors and in 2015 he nabbed Second Team All-State and First Team All-County accolades.

Roland on Fryc: "Christian is a talented central defender with a good physical presence and an expansive range of passing. In addition, he is dominant in the air and positions himself intelligently defensively."

Richard "Rocky" Garretson - 6' Forward/Midfielder - Manalapan, N.J.

Garretson joins the Knights after playing high school soccer at Manalapan Township. He was a teammate of Barajas, Fryc, and Nark Miranda at the 2016 U.S. Club National Champion Marlboro SC. Garretson racked up the honors in each of the last two seasons. He is a two-time First Team All-Shore selection, two-time First Team All-County honoree and has 2016 First Team All-State and 2015 Second Team All-State accolades to his credit. 

Roland on Garretson: "Rocky is an experienced attacking player that has shown he can score goals in a variety of ways from a number of different positions. He shouldered much of the goal scoring load for his Marlboro Club team & High School team."

Anthony Herbert - 6'3" Defender/Forward - Brooklyn, N.Y.

Herbert played for the U-17 Trinidad and Tobago National Team, as well as, the NY Red Bulls Academy. The Brooklyn native is expected to be a versatile player for the Knights when he arrives on campus. 

Roland on Herbert: "Anthony is a dynamic, athletic and versatile player that joins us from one of the best academies in the United States soccer system. He has an imposing physical presence along with having very good feet.  We see Anthony giving us the option to play either in the attack or along the backline."

Nark Miranda - 5'11" Midfielder - South River, N.J.

Miranda was a teammate of Barajas, Fryc, and Garretson with the 2016 U.S. Club National Champion Marlboro SC. He played his high school soccer at South River High School in Middlesex County. The South River team captain was named First Team All-County twice (2015, 2016), First Team All-State (2016) and Second Team All-State (2015).

Roland on Miranda: "Nark plays with a commitment and drive that's impressive. He's a box-to-box midfielder that can also look at playing wide, as well. His work rate, personality and desire will allow him to succeed at the Division I level."

Josh Schupak - 6' Forward - West Windsor, N.J.

Schupak played for Cedar Stars Academy-Monmouth and at West Windsor-Plainsboro North High School. The six-foot forward was named First Team All-State in 2015 and All-County in 2014 and 2015. While at West Windsor, Schupak set the school's single-season goal record. 

Roland on Schupak: "Josh is an explosive 1v1 soccer player that joins us from the NJCSA Academy. He has the drive and the ability to take on his defender, and a great knack for scoring goals. He is equally adept when it comes to assisting his teammates -- often picking out the correct pass to make at the right time."

Jack Shearer - 6' Forward - Aliquippa, Pa.

Shearer played at Central Valley High School and club soccer for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds where he was captain of the U-19 team. The talented striker was named Beaver County Times Player of the Year and set Center Valley's career-goal record. He is a three-time All-Section First Team selection and two-time First Team All-WPIAL honoree. 

Roland on Shearer: "Jack has scored goals at every level throughout his soccer career. He's one of those forwards who lives to score goals, and has a unique ability to combine with his teammates, and to complement them with his play."


The Knights open the spring portion of their schedule this Saturday, March 25 with a three-team round robin match against Seton Hall and Siena. Start time is set for noon at University Stadium.
