Box Score 2 OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team split a doubleheader with NYIT on Saturday afternoon. The Knights (11-10) fell in the first game, but for the second straight week redshirt junior
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) delivered a complete game shutout to give Fairleigh Dickinson a victory in the series finale.
Frati limited the Bears (10-12) to two hits and no walks, while recording a career-high 12 strikeouts. He faced just 22 batters, one over the minimum in his seven dominant innings. Over his last two starts, both shutouts, Frati has limited opponents to zero runs, six hits and two walks, while punching out 23 batters in 16 innings.
NYIT won the first game 9-0 and FDU won the second 1-0.
GAME ONEThe Bears secured a victory in game one with eight runs in the second inning. NYIT added a single run in the third inning and neither team scored again with the Bears holding on for the 9-0 victory.
Offensively, the Knights were led by freshman
Bradley Rodier (Sichlerville, N.J./Timber Creek) who collected two hits in two at bats.
Seniors
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) and
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) each had a hit in the game.
Senior
John Chalupa (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) took the loss on the mound. He allowed eight runs in 1.2 innings. Marble earned the victory for NYIT with seven scoreless innings.
GAME TWOFrati delivered seven dominant innings to out-pitch NYIT's David Plotkin as FDU earned a 1-0 victory to secure a split of the doubleheader and series.
Frati was exceptional over his seven innings as he faced just 22 batters, one over the minimum, to improve to 3-0 on the season.
He allowed a leadoff single in the fourth, which was quickly erased by the next batter hitting into a double play, and then surrendered a base hit with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Frati closed out the game strong by striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning. He struck out two or more batters in five of the seven innings.
The Knights scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning as Rodier came in to score on a throwing error following a fielder's choice by freshman Craig Alleyne.
Sprague led the offense with two hits and also reached base on a walk. Junior
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) also picked up a base hit in the game.
Plotkin took the loss for NYIT and falls to 2-1 on the season.
Saturday's performance dropped Frati's season ERA to 0.57. He has allowed just two earned runs in 31.1 innings. He has allowed just 25 hits and nine walks compared to 39 strikeouts. Only one of the hits Frati has allowed this season has gone for extra bases.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, April 1 at Sacred Heart.
