TEANECK, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis head coach
Jonathan Buchman announced the schedule for the 2013-14 season Thursday. The Knights, the two-time defending Northeast Conference champions, are fresh off their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in May.
"We have a full and competitive schedule,” Buchman said. “It includes the best of the fall tournaments, new opponents in the spring including Temple and Navy, teams we have played in the past such as Lehigh and Fairfield, and the teams we play annually. With Northeast Conference tennis getting stronger and stronger, we are excited to have four conference matches on the schedule as well. I expect our five incoming players to rise to this challenging and demanding schedule."
FDU, who finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 9-8 record (4-1 NEC), will get the upcoming season underway at the Princeton Invitational Sept. 13-15, before competing at the United States Tennis Association Invitational Sept. 20-22.
The Knights will conclude the month of September at the Penn Invitational (Sept. 27-29) and will participate at the Columbia Classic (Oct. 4-6) and the ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 17-22), before concluding the fall season with a dual match at Saint Peter's (Oct. 26).
The spring portion of the schedule will begin Feb. 1, 2014 with a dual match at NJIT. The following weekend FDU will play at Lehigh (Feb. 8) and a neutral site match versus Saint Francis University (Feb. 9), which will start NEC play. The Knights will then conclude the month of February with a pair of matches at Temple (Feb. 16) and Fairfield (Feb. 22).
After approximately a two-week break, FDU will head out to Palm Springs, Calif. over spring break to face four opponents, which are to be determined (March 10-13). Once back from the west coast, the Knights will head to New Haven, Conn. to take on Marist, Stony Brook and Yale (March 15-16).
On the following Saturday (March 22), FDU will play its home opener against conference foe Sacred Heart and will follow with a second home match on March 26 against Fordham. The next day, March 27, the Knights will conclude the March portion of the schedule with a match at Navy.
A rematch of the 2013 NEC Tournament championship match will take place on April 5, as FDU will head up to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant in its final road match of the season. The Knights will finish the year with home dates against Hofstra (April 9), Mount St. Mary's (April 12) and Concordia (April 14).
The 2014 NEC Tournament will take place April 17-19 in West Windsor, N.J.
