HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team will welcome the addition of Katie Buskey to the program for the 2013-14 season, Head Coach
Peter Cinella announced Wednesday.
“We are very excited to have Katie join our team,” Cinella said. “We expect her to make a major impact as a top three-point threat.”
Buskey, a 5-9 wing player from Maple Valley, Wash., played at North Idaho College, a two-year school located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the last two seasons. She earned First Team All-Region 18 honors this year while leading her team to a 28-5 record and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament in Salina, Kan., where she led the Cardinals with 19 points and five made three's in a three-point loss to Williston State College.
“Katie is very good defensively, competes hard and knows how to win,” Cinella said. “She came up big in leading her team to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament, and we hope she can bring that winning attitude to our program.”
Buskey, who was named the best defensive player on her team, averaged 10.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists this season and shot 41 percent from the field, including 33 percent from behind-the-arc (37 makes) and 76.3 percent from the charity stripe.
As a freshman, Buskey was the national leader in three-point field goal percentage after connecting on 47 percent of her attempts (48 makes) while averaging 11.3 points per game.
