M. Tennis Adds Five to 2013-14 Roster

TEANECK, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis head coach Jonathan Buchman will welcome five additions to the roster in 2013-14, the leader of the program announced Monday. Mariano Porter, Luis Garcia, Jacob Whalley, Jeremy Gala and Arnaud Valentin will look to help the Knights win three straight Northeast Conference titles and make three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.

"I am very excited about next year's team,” Buchman said. “With five new first-year players, it is truly a new team that will be challenged to uphold our programs success. Having recruited each of these student-athletes myself, I am confident they will achieve both on and off the court and be a credit to our University."

Coach Buchman on Mariano Porter (Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico):
"Mariano is a hard hitting, all-court player with excellent ITF experience. I expect him to make an immediate impact as a top player on our team."

Coach Buchman on Luis Garcia (Panama City, Panama):
"Luis is a talented player and very energetic. He has played many tournaments in and around Panama and spent considerable
time training in Florida. He is a great addition to our team.

Coach Buchman on Jacob Whalley (Wirral, England):
"Jake has made great strides in his game over the last 12 months and improved his LTA rating through tournament play. He possesses a tremendous passion for tennis, is an excellent student and a great asset to our program."

Coach Buchman on Jeremy Gala (Bruxelles, Belgium):
"Jeremy is a solid player with competitive spirit. He has the potential to be an impact player for us and I am looking forward to him being here at FDU."

Coach Buchman on Arnaud Valentin (Ridgefield, Conn.):
“Having previously coached Arnaud in high school I am particularly thrilled to be reuniting with him at FDU. His development as a tennis player and as a student has been remarkable. We have an excellent player-coach relationship and he knows better than anyone how I work and what I expect from the players."
