TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team made it five victories in a row after dismantling Saint Peter's, 7-0, Tuesday at the FDU Tennis Courts. The Knights move to 7-5 on the season, while the Peahens fall to 6-9 overall.
FDU won all three doubles matches en route to claiming the doubles' point. The Knights' No. 1 duo of senior
Anna Rapoport (Moscow, Russia/#1239 ) and freshman
Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) cruised to an 8-2 victory over Alexandria Livingston and Joniesa Williams, while senior
Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) and freshman
Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) slipped past Adina Halagian and Ivana Grbelja at No. 2, 8-6. At No. 3, sophomore
Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) and junior
Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) shutout Vanessa Vogel and Jessica Nowodgrodzki, 8-0.
In singles, the Knights won five of the six matches in straight sets, including six by 6-0 scores. Rapoport beat Livingston, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1. Morina took care of Halagian at No. 2, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Chis won, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 over Williams, while Maier and Leme were both victorious in shutouts, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 and 5 over Grbelja and Vogel. Sophomore
Gabriela Sarrate (Union City, NJ/Union City) rounded out the scoring for FDU with a three-set victory over Nowodgrodzki, 6-7, 6-1, 13-11, at No. 6.
The Knights will return to action on Thursday, April 11 when they host St. John's in their final home match of the season. Rapoport and Morina will be honored for senior day before the 3 p.m. match.
