SOMERSET, N.J. -- For the second week in a row, the Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team claimed the Northeast Conference women's tennis weekly awards, announced by the league on Tuesday.
Rapoport makes it back-to-back NEC Player of the Week honors after improving to 4-0 in league play with a pair of No. 1 singles victories. Last Wednesday (3/27), the reigning NEC Player of the Year knocked off Sacred Heart's Gabi Kaldan, 6-1, 6-2, to spark the Knights to a 7-0 win over the Pioneers. Three days later, she outlasted Quinnipiac's Rachel Cantor, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in FDU's 4-3 win over the Bobcats in a battle of NEC powers. Rapoport has now won three straight singles matches for the Knights, who finished the spring 4-0 against NEC competition.
Chis continues to rack up awards, winning her second consecutive NEC Rookie of the Week accolade to go along with her two NEC Rookie of the Month honors from the fall. Chis, a Highland Park, N.J. native, is now 14-3 overall and 3-1 against NEC competition in singles play following a split in a pair of three-set thrillers last week. Playing at the No. 3 spot for the first time all season, she rallied to beat Sacred Heart's Nicole Rydzewski, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8, then took Quinnipiac's Sarah Viebrock - a two-time First Team All-NEC performer - to three sets in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 setback.
