W. Tennis Prepares for Spring Opener Versus Rutgers

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team is scheduled to make its spring debut against Big East opponent Rutgers at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m.

The match will be the first of the spring for FDU following the cancelation of a Feb. 9 tilt at Binghamton and will be the third time the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will take the court this spring.

FDU (2-0) completed a successful fall season in tournament play to go with wins over Monmouth and Seton Hall. The Knights received six of the possible 11 first-place votes in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as they were chosen to repeat as NEC Champions.

Rutgers (1-1) kicked off the season with a 4-3 loss to Delaware on Feb. 3 before rebounding with a 7-0 victory over Lehigh on Feb. 7. The Scarlet Knights have had FDU's number of late, picking up 7-0 wins over the Burgundy and Blue on four occasions in the past five seasons.

During the fall, freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) led FDU with 12 singles victories and earned NEC Rookie of the Month twice and Player of the Month once. Senior captain Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) added 10 wins in singles action.

Rutgers' No. 1 singles player, junior Vanessa Petrini, is 2-0 so far this spring.

After the match against Rutgers, the Knights will travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. before playing UMass the following day in West Point at 10 a.m.
