SOMERSET, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis senior Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) and freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) were recognized for their standout play by being named the Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Month, announced Tuesday by the NEC.

Morina, who is a three-time All-NEC selection, was recognized for winning the Flight B crown at this past weekend's Army Invitational.

The road to the title began with a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win over Stony Brook's Becky Shtilkind in the round of 16. She then made quick work of UMass' Julia Comas, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. On the final day on Sunday, she took down Sarah Ali from Fordham by a score of 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-6 before beating another Fordham player, Angie Dabu, 6-2, 6-3 in the finals. For the month, Morina has gone 5-1 in singles play.

Cris, from Highland Park, N.J., made a smooth transition to the collegiate game by capturing the Flight C championship in her first tournament at the Stony Brook Classic from Sept. 14-16.  In the final, she defeated Navy's Gabby Winter, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Along the way, also posted victories against singles players from Bryant, Army and Amherst.  In seven matches this season, Chis has put together a 6-1 record.

The defending NEC champs will square off with Monmouth for a conference match on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the FDU Tennis Center in Teaneck, N.J.
