M. Tennis Puts Four in Action at USTA NTC Invitational Final Day

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team had four players in action for the final day at the USTA NTC Invitational on Sunday.

Sophomore Julien Philippe (Paris, France/Saint Honoré d’Eylau) was victorious over his teammate junior Dominic Devaux-Lovell (St. Lucia, West Indies/Heritage Delray Beach) by a score of 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 to take home the Flight H championship. Philippe's road to the title began with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Fordham's Peder Gram in the quarterfinals. He then took down Matt Dean from Sacred Heart in the semifinals to set up Sunday's matchup with Devaux-Lovell.

Senior Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) finished as the runner-up of Flight D singles after he fell in the finals on Sunday to Yale's Jason Brown. Gricheno started on the right track with a 6-1 first set win. Brown was able to take the next two by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, however, to pick up the win.

Gricheno was also involved in the finals in Flight C doubles. He and his partner, senior Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho), could not get by Princeton's team of Jonathan Carcione and Matt Siow, falling 8-3, to finish in second place.

The Knights will make their home debut on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a dual match against Hofstra at 3 p.m. at the FDU Tennis Center in Teaneck, N.J.
