Tennis Begins 2012-13 Season With Weekend Tournaments

Princeton Draws

TEANECK, N.J. -- For the first time since playing in the NCAA Tournament in May, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's and women's tennis teams will return to the court for the beginning of the 2012-13 season this weekend. The men's squad will head to Princeton, N.J. for the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational, while the women's side will play in the Stony Brook Classic in Stony Brook, N.Y on Sept. 14-16.

Friday will also mark the head coaching debut of Jonathan Buchman, who took over for FDU Hall of Fame Coach Ira Miller during the offseason.

The men's tournament is scheduled to take place at the Lenz Tennis Center. In the case of inclement weather, competition will be shifted inside to Jadwin Gymnasium.

The Knights will face a field that includes players from Binghamton, Boston College, Bucknell, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, St. John's, Wake Forest and Yale. FDU, Binghamton and Columbia all qualified for the NCAA Tournament last spring.

In singles, there will be six draws of 16 players, and doubles will consist of three draws of 16 pairs.

The FDU women's team will play at the Stony Brook Classic at University Courts in Stony Brook, N.Y.

The Knights will compete against student-athletes from Amherst, Army, Bryant, Colgate, LIU Brooklyn, Marist, Navy, Rhode Island and NCAA qualifier Stony Brook.

The play will be broken up into five draws, and the first round of singles on Friday will be eight-game pro sets.
