Nominations
Former Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis player
Julia Prantl (Benediktbeuern, Germany/GUS-Gymnasium Bad Tolz) has been selected as a nominee for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
The award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
Prantl, a Benediktbeuern, Germany native who graduated from FDU in May, is one of 429 student-athletes from Divisions I, II and III from across all of the NCAA sports to receive a nomination this year.
A Second Team All-Northeast Conference selection at No. 3 singles as a senior, Prantl led the Knights with 22 singles victories and helped secure the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
During the course of her career, Prantl compiled a 73-53 singles mark to go with a 70-46 doubles record. She was also honored with NEC postseason awards three times for singles and another two for doubles.
Prantl's campus involvement went beyond the tennis court as she was a member of the Honors Program and assisted with Habitat for Humanity and Penny Wars.
As a senior, she served as Vice President of FDU's Student Athlete Advisory Committee and throughout her time in Teaneck, she was involved with the Campus Improvement and Safety on Student Government Association and the Equinox, FDU's student-run newspaper.
The 429 nominees will be narrowed down to 10 from each division, then a top nine will be announced with the winner of the award being honored on Oct. 14 in Indianapolis, IN.
