Fairleigh Dickinson freshman baseball player
Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) was named NEC Rookie of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.
Moonan becomes the second FDU freshman to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season after helping the Knights take three of four games from NEC foe Quinnipiac. The Knights' starting centerfielder went 5-for-12 (.416) with three doubles, four walks, five runs scored and three RBIs on the road against the Bobcats. Moonan went 3-for-4 with a walk, a RBI, and two runs scored in FDU's 8-4 series-opening victory. He was held hitless but drew a walk and made five putouts in Game 2, which was Quinnipiac's lone win of the weekend. The left-handed hitter drew two walks and scored a run in the Knights' 5-3 victory in Game 3. His run-scoring double in the third inning of the series finale lifted the Knights' lead to 5-0. He doubled again and came around to score in the fifth frame of the eventual 11-2 triumph. Moonan reached base in all five games played last week, including a non-league bout with America East member Hartford. The 5-foot-11 central New York product made 19 putouts and played an error-free centerfield in helping his team to a winning week.
