M. Tennis Set to Conclude Fall at ITA Regional Championships

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team will look to end the 2012 fall season on a strong note with the ITA Regional Championships in New Haven, Conn. hosted by Yale beginning Thursday, Oct. 18, and running through Tuesday, Oct. 23.

The Knights were scheduled to play Hofstra for a home match on Wednesday, Oct. 10, but rain forced the match to be called off. FDU's last action was the Columbia Classic in early October where the senior duo of Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) and Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) went 2-1 to finish as the runner-up in Flight B doubles.

FDU will send sophomore Arvis Berzins (Adazi, Latvia/Riga Language School) and seniors Gricheno and Ibrahim Shams (Cairo, Egypt/Manor House) to play in the singles main draw, while senior Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) will compete in the qualifying round.

In doubles, Berzins and Shams, as well as Skvarka and Gricheno will vie for the regional crown.

The Knights have enjoyed a strong fall campaign with action at the Princeton Invitational, USTA Invitational and Columbia Classic. Along with their success at the Columbia Classic, FDU had three singles players and a doubles team in the finals at the USTA Invitational and a consolation singles win at the Princeton Invitational.
