SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team earned the doubles point and won three singles matches to take a 4-3 decision from Seton Hall on Tuesday in FDU's final dual match of the fall season. The win improves the Knights' record to 2-0 as the Pirates slip to 0-1.
The Knights were victorious at No. 1 and 3 doubles to take a 1-0 edge. FDU's top pairing of senior
Anna Rapoport (Moscow, Russia/#1239 ) and sophomore
Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) took down Seton Hall's Chloe Sher and Rocio Portela, 8-3, and at No. 3 freshman
Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) and junior
Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) were 8-4 winners against Karina Cordero and Alex Landert.
In singles , Guzairova won the first set, 7-5, at No. 2 singles and was leading 3-0 when Portela retired. At No. 4 singles, freshman
Celine Maier (Nuremberg, Germany /Bertolt-Brecht-Schule Nuremberg) won in straight sets against Landert, 6-0, 6-3. The Knights earned another straight-set victory at No. 5 singles where Chis beat Cordero, 6-1, 6-1.
The win gives the Knights their fourth undefeated fall schedule in a row.
FDU will close out the fall at the ITA Regional Championships in West Point, N.Y. Oct. 19 - Oct. 23.
