M. Basketball Looks to End Skid at Home Versus SFPA on Saturday

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team will look to end its 15-game losing streak at home against Saint Francis PA Saturday afternoon in a Northeast Conference tilt at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ.  Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.  This will be the second meeting of the season between the two schools with the Red Flash winning back on Dec. 3 at their place, 73-69.
 
With the Knights (1-17, 0-7 NEC) leading 50-47 with 7:46 to play, RMU outscored FDU, 20-5, the rest of the way to take the 67-55 victory.  FDU rallied from nine points down in each half to take leads with the last one being 52-51.  The difference in the game came down to the free throw line where the Colonials made 20-of-25 including a perfect 12-of-12 in the second half.  The Knights made only 10-of-16 from the charity stripe and only 3-of-8 in the second half including a crucial miss of the front end of a one-and-one when they had a 52-51 lead with 5:45 left in the game.  RMU also forced the Knights into 18 turnovers and scored 25 points off FDU's miscues.  The Knights only scored eight points off the Colonials' 11 turnovers.  The visitors also outscored FDU, 21-8, on second-chance points.
 
Junior Melquan Bolding (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Bishop Stepinac) led the Knights with 15 points.  He scored the final 12 points for FDU in the first half.  Graduate student George Goode (Raytown, MO/Raytown South) added 12 points and tied for game high honors with nine rebounds and also recorded three blocks.  Senior Briahn Smith (Detroit, MI/Madison), who had a great game defensively, chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) also chipped in a season-high 10 points off the bench including two big three-pointers in the first half.

Scouting Saint Francis PA: The Red Flash (4-14, 3-4 NEC) are coming off a 68-50 loss at Monmouth this past Thursday night.  They have lost seven of their last eight and eight of their last 10 after starting 2-0 in NEC play with home wins over Monmouth (71-49) and FDU (73-69).  SFPA's lone win of last came last Saturday night with an impressive home win over Quinnipiac (74-71).  The Red Flash have lost at CCSU (69-58), Bryant (59-56) and at home to Sacred Heart (71-68).  SFPA and the Knights have one common opponent in Lafayette as both teams loss to the Leopards (SFPA at home, 84-81; FDU on the road, 85-74).
 
Sophomore forward Scott Eatherton, who is the lone player to start all 18 games for the Red Flash, leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (7.1 rpg) and field goal percentage (64.3 percent; 101-of-157).  He is also the team's leading free throw shooter (76 percent; 57-of-75).  Junior guard Anthony Ervin is the team's second leading scorer at 10.4 ppg and leads the team from three-point range (37.7 percent; 66-of-153). 

All-Time Series: This will be the 80th meeting between the schools with the series dating back to the 1954-55 season. The Knights hold a 41-38 advantage in the series but have lost five of the last six and four-straight at SFPA.  The last win for FDU in the series took place on Jan. 23, 2010 as the Knights held on for a 78-75 home victory at Stratis Arena. The Knights have won 26 of the 38 games played at home.
 
This is the second contest between the Knights and the Red Flash this season.  Back on December 3, SFPA rallied in the second half to defeat FDU, 73-69.  Goode led four FDU players in double figures with a career night.  He scored a career-high 21 points (at the time) on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds (at the time) for his first career double-double.  Bolding added 13 points (11 in the first half) and a game-high three steals.  Junior Kinu Rochford (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) went a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor to chip in 11 points, while junior Lonnie Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) chipped in 10 points (all in the first half).  Junior Lonnie Hayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Harmony Prep) added nine points (all in the second half) and dished out a team-high six assists.
 
Eatherton led SFPA with 19 points (15 in the second half) on 8-of-9 shooting, while Ervin came off the bench to score 19 and also grabbed nine rebounds.  Stephon Whyatt added 12 points, and Chris Johnson registered nine assists.
