The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team swept visiting Saint Peter's on Tuesday afternoon, taking an 8-0 shutout win in five innings in the first game before defeating the Peahens, 8-2. FDU improves to 9-19 on the season, while the Peahens fall to 1-15.

In the first game, the Knights loaded the bases twice in the bottom of the first inning but were unable to convert the runners.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brianne Benedict got the scoring started on a Lauren Hamilton single after smacking a double and stealing third. Mikayla Fernandez, who hit a single through the right side to plate Kirsten Shreve, scored, along with Kristen Kinneer as Caitlin Bradac helped her own cause, sending a long fly to right field to give FDU the 4-0 edge.

The Knights added four runs in the bottom of the third inning on three hits as Kristen Coughlan started things off with a walk. Shreve and Kinneer had back-to-back singles, with Coughlan scoring on Kinneer's hit and Shreve stealing home. Fernandez singled and scored on a throwing error and Kinneer scored on a groundout by Bradac.

In the top of the fourth, Bradac sat down three-straight Peahens, finishing with 10 strikeouts in a one-hitter with only one walk.

Fernandez finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Bradac was 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In the second game, the Knights again got on the board early, with Alex Schubert drawing a walk with the bases loaded.

After Saint Peter's tied the game in the top of the second with a run, Fairleigh Dickinson put up three runs in the bottom half of the inning for the 4-1 advantage.

An RBI double in the bottom of the third by Shreve pushed Elizabeth Woidt across the plate. Bradac, Schubert and Maire Shaughnessy each drew RBI walks to add to the Knights' lead, giving them an 8-1 edge.

The Peahens made it a six-run game, 8-2, adding another run in the top of the fifth inning, but that was as close as they would get as the Knights took the victory.

Shreve was on the mound for her second win of the season, scattering five hits, allowing one earned run and striking out six.

Shreve was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Bradac was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk, Schubert was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks and Woidt was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

"We had good pitching and some timely hitting today," said Head Coach Dale Martin. "We had good offensive support for practically error-less fielding. It shows what we are capable of when we put all of the pieces together." The Knights had no errors in the first game and only one in the second.

The Knights return to Northeast Conference action at Bryant on Sunday, April 11 for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
