The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team got back into the win column as they rolled past St. Francis (NY) this afternoon in an NEC tilt played at the Pope Physical Education Center in Brooklyn Heights, NY.  The Knights improve to 9-18 (5-11 NEC), while the Terriers fall to 2-25 (1-15 NEC) overall.

Mariyah Laury led the Knights with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Alyssa Mayrose added 16 points and five rebounds.  Jenna Strich chipped in a career-high 15 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds.  She shot 6-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range.  Jasmyra Saunders dished out five assists to lead the squad, and she recorded three steals.

The Knights got off to a fast start as they scored the game's first 11 points.  Alannah Driscoll-Sbar started the scoring with a short jumper on the fast break, and Laury went on to score the next six points.  Mayrose's three-pointer from the left corner capped the run.

Both teams played even over the next six and a half minutes, but the Knights still held a 20-9 advantage with 10:02 to go in the first half.

After the Terriers cut the lead to eight, the Knights scored the next six points to start a 16-5 run as they took their largest lead of the half, 36-17, with 1:16 to go and went into halftime up, 36-19.  During the run, the Knights were able to get easy baskets off of nice outlet passes.

Laury scored 13 points, and Mayrose added 12 points to lead the Knights in the first half.  Mayrose went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.  Laury also grabbed four rebounds to lead the Knights on the boards in the first half.

The Knights played one of their better halves of the season in the first half.  They shot 54.2 percent (13-for-24) from the field and continued to stay hot from behind-the-arc as they made 3-of-5.  Their defensive intensity resulted in holding the Terriers to 22.2 percent (6-for27) shooting from the field, forcing 10 turnovers, and registering six steals.

The Knights also out-rebounded the Terriers, 18-15.

The Terriers knocked down their first two baskets to start the half and cut Knights' lead to 38-24.

Another layup by Mayrose started a string of 10 unanswered points scored by the Knights.  Kayla Killian's three-point play gave the Knights a 48-24 lead with 15:08 to go in the game.

After the Terriers scored, Strich knocked down a trey ball from the left wing, and Saunders knocked down two free throws to give the Knights their largest lead of the game, 53-26, with 13:35 to go.

The Terriers outscored the Knights, 18-12, the rest of the way, but the game was never in doubt as the Knights picked up the 65-44 victory.

The Knights cooled off in the second half with their shooting, but still finished the game shooting 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the field and 45.5 percent (5-for-11) from three-point range.  They also shot 84.2 percent (16-for-19) from the free throw line.

The Knights shutdown the Terriers on the defensive end as they held St. Francis (NY) to 27.5 percent (14-for-51) from the field.  They also forced 18 turnovers, while only committing 16 turnovers.

The Knights also won the rebounding battle for only the fifth time this season as they out-rebounded the Terriers, 36-30.

"We shot the ball really well all day today," said Head Coach Pete Cinella.  "It was nice to play so well on the road.  St Francis has had some good games in recent weeks.  We did a great job of finding the open player and our defense was excellent.  Jenna Strich really stepped up and had a fine all-around game."

The Knights return to action on Thursday, February 25, as they travel to Sacred Heart for an NEC matchup.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
