Women's Tennis Wins at Army, 4-3

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team won its fourth straight dual match Saturday afternoon versus Army in West Point, NY, 4-3.  With the victory, the Knights improve to 11-4 in dual meets this season. 

 

In number one singles, senior Julija Korshunova defeated Anne Houghton, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5).  Her victory was the deciding match to give the Knights the victory.  Sophomore Elmine Botes defeated Jessica Ahn, 6-2, 6-3, in number two singles.  Sophomore Julia Prantl defeated Kristin Beehler in number three singles, 6-2, 6-3.  In number four singles, freshman Egzona Morina defeated Michael Tollerton, 6-3, 6-2.  Senior Ksenia Chernyshova was defeated by Annie Hang in number five singles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.  Senior Jessica DeCarlos lost in number six singles to Robie Verano, 6-3, 6-0.

In number one doubles action, Botes and Korshunova were defeated by Houghton and Beehler, 8-4.  The tandem of Prantl and Morina won, 8-7 (7-5), in number two doubles over Erin Colton and Hang.  Chernyshova and DeCarlos lost in number three doubles to Tollerton and Patricia Vollmer, 8-4.

"We lost the doubles, but stayed confident," said head coach Ira Miller.  "We won easily with our 2-4 matches.  Julija played tremendously in the deciding match to give us the victory."

 The squad returns to action Monday, April 5, as they return home to take on Long Island in match that was rescheduled from March 28.  First serve for the NEC-match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the FDU Tennis Courts in Teaneck.
