GREG VETRONE, Interim Head Coach

Greg Vetrone became the Interim Head Coach of the Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team in the summer of 2009. He takes over the reigns after serving as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season.

Vetrone brings a wealth of experience to the position with over 20 years working within all aspects of basketball.

"He brings lots of energy and intensity every day, which leads to a frenetic pace in practice as well as in the style of play and I think that is going to excite the fans," said Director of Athletics David Langford.

Prior to rejoining the FDU staff, Vetrone coached Portchester High School to the 2008 League Championship, posting an 18-6 record. Before that, he worked at Aviator Sports and Recreation as the Basketball Manager, acting as the director of all basketball events, coordinating youth clinics, summer camps, high school basketball tournaments and adult leagues.

Since 2002, Vetrone has served as a consultant for the Grass Roots Program/Reebok. In that position, he was the Director of ABCD East and West Camp Next, co-director of ABCD All-American Basketball Camp and co-director of Roundball Classic High school All-American game in Chicago, Illinois.

From 2004-06, he was the manager for Coaches versus Cancer, coordinating all fundraising efforts with NCAA and NBA coaches. In that position, he also acted as the director of Snapple Westchester Classic College Basketball game and Coaches vs. Cancer Coaching clinic.

For five years prior to that, Vetrone was a consultant for The Hoop Group/Eastern Invitational Camps. He worked to enhance individual player skills of all camp participants, while also serving as the head coach of the One-World-All-Stars exhibition team, director of the International Basketball League Draft.

Vetrone began his coaching career in 1985 as an assistant basketball coach for LIU-CW Post, where he was the chief recruiter, organized workouts and in-season practice sessions. He was also responsible for established study hall and bi-weekly student grade updates and served as the liaison for housing department and financial aid office.

He then moved to Fairleigh Dickinson as an assistant coach (1988-91), where his responsibilities included recruiting, scheduling recruiting visits and coordinating recruiting calendars. At the University of California- Irvine, Vetrone was an assistant coach from 1991-95 and worked as the recruiting coordinator as well as host of alumni and booster club events.

For four years, Vetrone was an assistant coach at University of Nevada- Las Vegas, where he scouted, recruited and coordinated game strategy.

Vetrone graduated from Long Island University- CW Post Campus with a bachelor's degree of arts in 1986. He lives in Bethpage, NY with his wife, Erin, and children, Vanessa, 17, and Vinny, 14.
