Former Fairleigh Dickinson University Assistant Women's  Basketball Coach Joymarie Swanson passed away on Monday, October 16 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

After being diagnosed with ocular melanoma cancer almost a  year ago, the 33 year old fought with infinite strength.

Right up until the end, despite being in a great deal of  pain, she was truly inspirational and tough.

Joy served as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for Fairleigh Dickinson for two years, 2004-06. Prior to her  time at FDU, she was an assistant coach at West Point for  three years.

Joy was a 1995 graduate of St. Bonaventure, where she  played Division I basketball for four years while she  earned a bachelor of arts in psychology. She coached there  while she earned her M.S.E.D. in community counseling as well.

She is survived by her husband, Scott, and their son, Thor, along with her parents, Ted and Roe, her brothers, Babe and TJ, and her sisters, June and Julie.

The Swanson family has been overwhelmed by the love and support they have received from the entire community and wish to express their deepest appreciation to everyone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in  her honor to a Fund for Thor Swanson:
