Fairleigh Dickinson University Interim Head Coach Greg Vetrone has announced the men's basketball schedule for the 2009-10 season, highlighted by the Knights' participation in the EBA Classic.
The Knights open the season on Nov. 13 at Villanova, which reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament last year. FDU will then open competition in the EBA Classic, playing at Wichita State on Nov. 15 and Iowa on Nov. 17. The squad will take a break from the EBA Classic as the Knights open their home season on Nov. 21 against Central Michigan. FDU will look to avenge a five-point loss to the Chippewas in Mount Pleasant, MI, last season as part of the ESPNU Bracketbuster.
Fairleigh Dickinson will continue competition in the EBA Classic, playing UC-Irvine, Texas- San Antonio and Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, KY on Nov. 23-25.
After the Knights play at Houston Baptist on Dec. 2, they will open the Northeast Conference season at Quinnipiac on Dec. 5. FDU will return to non-conference action as it hosts Army on Dec. 7 before traveling to Lafayette on Dec. 9 and Missouri on Dec. 12.
Fairleigh Dickinson will start a five-game home stretch, hosting St. Peter's (12/19), Iona (12/23), Sacred Heart (1/2), Bryant (1/7) and Central Connecticut State (1/9).
The Knights will play at Robert Morris on Jan. 14 and at Saint Francis PA on Jan. 16 before returning home to host the Colonials on Jan. 21 and the Red Flash on Jan. 23.
After playing at Bryant on Jan. 28 and at Central Conn. on Jan. 30, the Knights will open February with a home tilt versus intrastate rival Monmouth on Feb. 4; FDU will play at the Hawks on Feb. 6 and host Longwood on Feb. 8.
After hosting Wagner (2/11) and Mount St. Mary's (2.13), FDU will have a three-game road swing, as the Knights play at Long Island (2/18), at St. Francis NY (2/20) and at Sacred Heart (2/25). FDU will close out the regular season with a home game versus Quinnipiac, where the 2010 seniors will be honored, on Feb. 27.
"This season, we have put together a highly competitive schedule," said Vetrone. "I think that we have compiled a difficult non-conference schedule that will help us become a better team; our non-conference games will prepare us to be competitive within the Northeast Conference."
Fairleigh Dickinson finished last season with a 7-23 overall record, including a 6-12 mark in Northeast Conference action. Sean Baptiste (North Brunswick, NJ) returns for his senior season after leading the Knights with 16.3 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game last season.
