Baseball Lands Six Talents for 2010, Including One MLB Draft Pick

Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball Head Coach Jerry DeFabbia announces the singing of six recruits, Thursday, June 25.  Three players come to the Metropolitan Campus via the Sunshine State, backed by a tandem of in-state student-athletes, and the other from Pennsylvania.

Ashley Bulluck ? a 6'9”, 270-pounder from Hollywood, FL ? brings a dual role to the line-up.  Drafted in the 49th round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft earlier this month by the Baltimore Orioles, the right-hander has been clocked in the low 90's during his time at South Broward High.  Bulluck's power also enables him to serve as a designated hitter or play first base.

“Bulluck has the ability to throw three pitches for strikes,” DeFabbia said.  “As a freshman, he should compete for innings in conference series. Has good power at the plate and is a middle of the order hitter.”

Two outfielders, Ben Mersky and Jonathan Torres, deepen the Knights' roster after the squad graduates its starting left and right fielders.  Mersky, a lefty, hails from Hershey, PA where he played for Hershey High; while the right-handed Torres is a graduate of Pines Charter in Mirimar, FL.

“Mersky is a good athlete with excellent baseball instincts,” DeFabbia said of the 5'11”, 170-pound product.  “As a top of the order hitter with speed, he should come in and compete for playing time right away.

DeFabbia's assessment of Torres stated that the 5'11”, 185-pound ballplayer “can really swing the bat.”  FDU's veteran coach continued, saying, “He also should compete for playing time right away and represents a middle of the order type hitter.”

Right-hander Craig Warner (5'11”, 190) joins southpaws Eric Anderson (6'4”, 220) and Matt Cadigan (6'1”, 170), rounding out the new additions.  Warner played at Stoneman Douglas in Coral Springs, FL with reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, infielder Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas).  Anderson, a native of Allendale, NJ, was rostered on Northern Highlands, while Cadigan played for Freehold Township in Freehold, NJ.

Similar to Bullock, the combination of Warner and Cadigan will compete for innings versus NEC opponents.  DeFabbia said the duo also feature a three-pitch repertoire.  Anderson ? who doubles as a first baseman ? “has big time power and is a middle of the order type hitter hit can help on the mound from the left side.”

Fairleigh Dickinson returns 26 letter winners next spring.
