The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team was topped, 11-1, by undefeated Wake Forest University, Friday, Feb. 27.  In the first of four games at the WF Invitational, the Knights were sent to 0-1 on the season by its host Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.

The Demon Deacons (6-0) scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the first.  However, Fairleigh Dickinson tied it, 1-1, in the top of the second.  Outfielder Jeff Vincent walked then stole second base.  The senior scored on an RBI groundout courtesy of sophomore outfielder Steven LaForge.

Senior lefty John Meadus kept the ball game knotted, until Wake created a 4-1 advantage with a three-run frame in the fourth.  With no outs, senior outfielder Weldon Woodall sparked things with a two-run round-tripper.  Meadus was saddled with the loss, working 5.0 innings and fanning three.

FDU loaded the bases in the eighth inning, but failed to plate a run.  Four relievers toed the rubber for Head Coach Jerry DeFabbia’s squad.  Senior right-hander Corey Jeffers struck out the lone batter he faced.

Freshmen Matt Holsman, Adrian Artidielo, and Scott Morrison registered their first collegiate hits.

Wake Forest tacked on a pair in the sixth to shift the margin to 6-1.  One run ensued in the seventh, flanked by four more in the bottom portion of the eighth.

Freshman Austin Stadler hurled 6.0 innings to collect his second win of the year.  The Demon Deacons’ southpaw sat down five batters.  On the year, Stadler has only yielded one earned run through 11.0 innings.

The Knights play a pair versus The College of William & Mary, Saturday, Feb. 28.  On a neutral field in Winston-Salem, NC, Fairleigh Dickinson faces the Tribe at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
