Fairleigh Dickinson's Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point) (Stony Point, NY) competed at the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships presented by Brunswick in Indianapolis, IN on July 14-16.
After leading early, McEwan advanced to the finals, placing fifth overall, just 24 pins behind the fourth-place finisher. The top four spots are automatically selected to the 2011 USA Junior National Team and the National Selection Committee chose McEwan and three others to join the team.
The final roster for Junior Team USA 2011 will be determined at the 2011 USBC Team USA Trials in January, where spots for four girls and four boys will be up for grabs.
"Danielle is one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached," said Fairleigh Dickinson University head women's bowling coach Mike LoPresti. "She loves to practice and rarely misses a day at the lanes. Nobody deserves this honor more than Danielle. We know what a tremendous players she is and now everyone else will find out."
McEwan will enter into her second season with the FDU women's bowling team this fall, after helping the Knights win the NCAA Championship for the second time in the program's history. McEwan, who was selected as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and was named Most Outstanding Player to cap off her rookie campaign.
