Women's Golf Opens Competition at the NCAA East Regionals

Michele Holzwarth (/) led the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's golf team on the opening day of the 2010 NCAA East Regionals, held at the par-72, 6,321-yard Ironwood Country Club. Holzwarth carded a 77 to lead the squad, while Eva Mayr (Schwendi, Germany, /) fired an 80 in the first round.

Lisa Warrilow (Gnosall, Stafford, UK/) shot an 81 and Jessica Benoit (Lee, NH/) rounded out the Knights' scorers with an 89.

Auburn is leading the field with a team score of 280, eight under par. Pepperdine is second (281) and South Carolina rounds out the tpo three teams with a 283.

FDU is in 24th with a team score of 327.

"We didn't get off to the best start," said Head Coach Rob Warren. "But we played pretty well on the back nine. We left a lot of strokes out there, but I expect better performances tomorrow."

The Knights will continue competition at the Regionals on Friday.
