Baseball Falls at Home to Saint Peter's, 16-2

The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team was defeated by Saint Peter's Wednesday afternoon, 16-2, in a non-conference tilt at FDU Field in Teaneck.  The Peacocks put the game away early with a seven-spot in the second inning to go up 8-0.  With the victory, the Peacocks improve to 9-20 on the season, while the Knights fall to 5-21 overall.

Saint Peter's took an early 1-0 lead in the first off Knights' starter Corey Jeffers (Woodbine, NJ/St. Augustine Prep).  The senior was making his first career start on the hill for the Knights.  However, Jeffers (0-1) took the loss on the hill as he only lasted an inning, failing to retire a batter in the second inning.  The Peacocks scored seven times in the second to take an 8-0 lead.

Senior Terry Lydecker (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) relived Jeffers in the second and pitched 5.0 innings of relief, giving up eight runs and scattering 11 hits.  Six runs were earned and he stuck out a career-high six batters, while walking four.  Juniors Chris Theordor (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) and Zach Kisling (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro Central) combined to pitch the final three innings for the Knights.

The Peacocks scored four more times in the fourth and one more time in the sixth to go up 13-0.  The Knights finally scored in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas) and junior Joe Martino (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) each hit solo home runs to put the Knights down 13-2.

Saint Peter's scored once more in the seventh and two more times in the ninth, earning a 16-2 victory.

Jeremy Ives earned the victory for the Peacocks.  He pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Anthony DeLeo pitched the final 4.0 innings.

The Knights collected ten hits on the day.  Junior JT Sherba (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and freshman Jonathan Torres (Miramar, FL/Pine Crest) each has two hits.  Defensively, the Knights committed three costly errors.

Conor Mullee led Saint Peter's 17-hit attack by going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI's and three runs scored.  Brian Schroeder and Cody Haack each had three hits.  John Lynch and Mike LaCava each had three RBI's.

The Knights return to action this Saturday as they host a non-conference doubleheader at FDU Field versus Iona.  First pitch for game one is 12:00 p.m.
