The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team won its second straight dual match as they swept Saint Joseph's, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the FDU Tennis Courts in Teaneck. The Knights improve to 7-11 overall.
In number one singles, sophomore Dom Hemy defeated Michael Stauble, 6-4, 6-3. In number two singles, freshman Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) defeated Alex Veronis, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 10-4. Freshman Sven Sjoerds (Gendt, Netherlands/Over Betuwe College Bemmel) defeated Matt Prusack in number three singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 In number four singles, freshman Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) defeated Tommy Gates, 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Ted Segerfors (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gynasium) defeated Lucho Perez in number five singles, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. Sophomore Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) won in number six singles over Peter Cognetti, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7.
In number one doubles action, Sjoerds and sophomore Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) were defeated by Stauble and Prusack, 8-5. The tandem of Skvarka and Hemy won, 8-4, in number two doubles over Cognetti and Perez. Denny and freshman Guy Goren Eliav won in number three doubles over Veronis and Gates, 8-2.
"It was a good match against an Atlantic 10 rival," said Head Coach Ira Miller. "We are looking forward to Binghamton on Saturday."
The Knights return to action Saturday, April 10, as they travel to Binghamton, NY to take on Binghamton. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
