Men's Tennis Wins at Conference-Rival Monmouth, 6-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team defeated NEC-rival Monmouth Wednesday afternoon in West Long Branch, NJ, 6-1.  The Knights improve to 6-11 (2-1 NEC) overall.

 

In number one singles, sophomore Dom Hemy defeated Laurence Heads, 6-2, 6-1.  In number two singles, freshman Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) defeated Ian Terpilowski, 6-2, 6-0.  Freshman Sven Sjoerds (Gendt, Netherlands/Over Betuwe College Bemmel) defeated David Sherwood in number three singles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2).  In number four singles, freshman Yuri Gricheno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim) was defeated by Harveer Bhalla, 6-4, 6-0.  Freshman Ted Segerfors (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gynasium) defeated Ben Dashiell in number five singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.  Sophomore Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) won in number six singles over Oliver Grimbly, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

In number one doubles action, Sjoerds and sophomore Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) defeated Heads and Terpilowski, 8-5.  The tandem of Skvarka and Hemy won, 8-5, in number two doubles over Sherwood and Bhalla.  Denny and freshman Guy Goren Eliav won in number three doubles over Dashiell and Grimbly, 8-3.

"It was a close match, and we played well," said Head Coach Ira Miller.  "We were able to win the close matches.  Dom defeated the reining NEC Rookie of the Year in first singles."

The Knights return to action tomorrow, April 8, as they host St. Joseph's at the FDU Tennis Courts in Teaneck.  First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
