Men's Tennis Drops Two Matches Today

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches today on the campus of Yale in New Haven, CT.  Stony Brook defeated the Knights, 4-3, and Marist shutout the squad, 7-0.  The Knights fall to 4-5 in dual matches on the season.

 

In the match ersus Stony Brook, sophomore Dom Hemy lost in number one singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, to Roope Kailaheimo.  Freshman Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) lost to Ivan Rummel in number two singles, 6-2, 6-4.  Freshman Ibraham Shams lost in number three singles to Jon Epstein, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).  In number four singles, freshman Sven Sjoerds (Gendt, Netherlands/Over Betuwe College Bemmel) defeated Palash Tiwari, 7-5, 6-4.  Freshman Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) lost to Mitch Wong in number five singles, 7-5, 6-0.  Freshman Ted Segerfors (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gynasium) won in number six singles, defeating Ilan Shvartz, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

In number one doubles action, Skvarka and sophomore Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) lost, 8-2, to Halvar Dil and Wong.  The tandem of Sjoerds and Shams won, 9-8, in number two doubles over Kailaheimo and Rummel.  Sophomore Andrew Denny (Bingley, England/Bradford Grammar) and freshman Goren Guy Eliav (Hod Hasharon, Israel/Rothberg) won in number three doubles over Epstein and Tiwari, 8-6.

In the match versus Marist, Skvarka lost in number one singles to Christian Coley, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.  Shams lost to Loic Sessagesimi, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in number two singles.  Sjoerds was defeated, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, in number three singles.  In number four singles, Segerfors was defeated by Matt Himmelsbach, 6-2, 6-0.  Denny lost in number five singles to Landon Greene, 6-2, 6-0.  Jemersic lost, 6-3, 6-3, in number six singles to Marcus von Nordheim.

In doubles, Skvarka and Jemersic lost, 8-5, to Coley and Himmelsbach.  The tandem of Sjoerds and Shams won, 7-6 (7-4), in number two doubles over Nick Pisecky and Joris Van Eck.  Denny and Eliav lost in number three doubles to Sessagesimi and Greene, 8-4.

"It was a tough way to finish out," said Head Coach Ira Miller.  "However, we are looking forward to next weekend when we play Brown and Dartmouth."

The Knights return to action Saturday, March 6, as they travel to Providence, RI to take on Brown.  The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
