The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team was defeated by Columbia, 6-1, this afternoon in New York City. The Knights fell to 4-2 in dual meets for the 2009-10 season.
In number one singles, senior Julija Korshunova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary School #75) was defeated by Nicole Bartnik, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Sophomore Elmine Botes (Heidelberg Gauteng, Rep. of South Africa/Hoer Volkskool and British International Distance College) was defeated by Natasha Makarova in number two singles, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Julia Prantl (Benediktbeuern, Germany/GUS-Gymnasium Bad Tolz) lost in number three singles to Chelsea Davis, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8. In number four singles, freshman Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) lost to Carling Donovan, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Senior Ksenia Chernyshova (Moscow, Russia/Secondary School Korolev) lost to Diana Shapoval in number five singles, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Jinny DeCarlos (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) won in number six singles versus Caroline Constable, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
In number one doubles action, Botes and Korshunova defeated Bartnik and Donovan, 8-6. The tandem of Prantl and Morina lost, 8-6, in number two doubles to Davis and Makarova. Chernyshova and DeCarlos lost in number three doubles to Shapoval and Natalia Christenson, 8-2.
The Knights return to action in two weeks as they travel to West Point, NY to take on Army. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20.
