The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team was defeated by Rutgers, 7-0, this afternoon in Piscataway, NJ. The Knights fell to 4-1 in dual meets for the 2009-10 season.
In number one singles, sophomore Elmine Botes (Heidelberg Gauteng, Rep. of South Africa/Hoer Volkskool and British International Distance College) was defeated by Amy Zhang, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Julija Korshunova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary School #75) was defeated by Jennifer Holzberg in number two singles, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 10-4. Sophomore Julia Prantl (Benediktbeuern, Germany/GUS-Gymnasium Bad Tolz) lost in number three singles to Katherine Arlak, 6-2, 6-3. In number four singles, freshman Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) lost to Mariana Milchutsky, 6-3, 6-0. Senior Ksenia Chernyshova (Moscow, Russia/Secondary School Korolev) lost to Michelle Green in number five singles, 6-3, 6-2. Senior Jessica DeCarlos (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) lost in number six singles to Leonora Slatnick, 6-0, 6-2.
In number one doubles action, Botes and Korshunova lost to Zhang and Holzberg, 8-5. The tandem of Prantl and Morina won its match, 8-5, in number two doubles verus Arlak and Christine Tran. Chernyshova and DeCarlos lost in number three doubles to Milchutsky and Slatnick, 8-4.
The Knights return to action this Saturday as they travel across the Hudson River to NYC to take on Columbia at 12:00 p.m.
