Women's Tennis Opens Up Spring Season With 7-0 Sweep at Lehigh

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team opened up its spring season today with a convincing 7-0 sweep of Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA.  The Knights are 1-0 on the young season.

 

In number one singles, sophomore Elmine Botes (Heidelberg Gauteng, Rep. of South Africa/Hoer Volkskool and British International Distance College) defeated Julie Arthofer, 7-6, 6-2.  Senior Julija Korshunova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary School #75) defeated Liz Piscitelli in number two singles, 6-2, 6-1.  Sophomore Julia Prantl (Benediktbeuern, Germany/GUS-Gymnasium Bad Tolz) won in number three singles, defeating Stacey Reich, 6-1, 6-0.  In number four singles, freshman Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) defeated Patricia Muething, 6-3, 6-2.  Senior Ksenia Chernyshova (Moscow, Russia/Secondary School Korolev) defeated Abbey Perl in number five singles, 6-4, 7-5.  Senior Jessica DeCarlos (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) won in number six singles, defeating Gena Levengood, 6-2, 6-3.

In number one doubles action, Botes and Korshunova defeated Arthofer and Piscitelli, 8-2.  The tandem of Prantl and Morina won, 8-1, in number two doubles, defeating Reich and Muething.  Chernyshova and DeCarlos won in number three doubles as they defeated Perl and Kiera Murasko-Blank, 8-3.

The Knights return to action this Thursday, February 4, as they travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on Rutgers at 2:00 p.m.
