The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's fencing team competed at the Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Jan. 9. The Knights won against NJIT, 17-10 and defeated Drew University, 20-7.
The epee team was the highlight of the day, defeating UNC, 7-2; NJIT, 8-1; and Drew, 7-2. The Knights just missed defeating UPenn, 4-5. The leaders in epee were Annie Kazarjan (Budapest, Hungary/Koecsey Ferenc Gimnazium) and Christine Forsythe (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown), who each had 13 victories. Evgeniya Tyrtova (Omst, Russia/Liceum #66) added five victories.
The sabre squad defeated both NJIT and Drew by a score of 7-2. Sophia Biscof had 11 victories and Heather Morrill (Pawtucket, RI/Bishop Feehan) posted seven victories. Jesica Cavouti (/) and Genele Streitz (Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham High School) each notched three victories.
Ginny Siskidis (/) led the foil squad with nine wins. Audrey Prado (Jersey City, NJ/St. Dominic Academy) had a pair of wins in foil and Julia Silva (Garfield, NJ/Immaculate Conception High School) had a victory as well.
"All in all, we did very well today and we are looking forward to going to Chicago at the end of the month," said Head Coach Roger Cummings.
