The Fairleigh Dickinson University
men's tennis team opened competition at the Cornell University Invitational in Ithica,
NY today.
In the singles A Flight, freshman
Peter Skvarka (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia/Gymnazium J.G. Tajovskeho) lost to Arnav Jain from Binghamton, 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. Sophomore Dom Hemy also lost his first match
to Jeremy Feldman from Cornell, 6-2, 6-1.
Hemy was then defeated in his consolation match, 8-6, by Chris Albornoz
from Army.
In the singles B Flight, freshman
Daniel Penaranda (Bogota, Colombia/Lycee Francais Pasteur) defeated Rohan Patel from Case Western, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) lost, 6-4, 6-0, to Daniel
Lemieux-Sarassin from Niagra. He was
then defeated by Don Van Velzer from Army, 8-2, in his consolation match.
In the singles C Flight, freshman
Ted Segerfors (Stockholm, Sweden/Ostra Reals Gynasium) won, 6-1, 6-1, over Andrew Clark from Army.
In the singles D Flight, sophomore
Marco Jemersic (Zagreb, Croatia/X Gimnazija Ivan Supek) lost to Bastian Bornkessel from Binghamton, 6-3, 6-0.
In the singles E Flight, both Chris Jenkins (Bridgend, Wales/Schiller International) and Stephan Muller (Dubai, United Arab Emirates/Dubai American Academy) won their matches. The freshman Jenkins won, 7-5, 2-6, 11-9, over
Eric Rothstein from Buffalo. The
sophomore Muller defeated Tiago Gandum from Buffalo, 7-6, 6-1.
In the first doubles, Dom Hemy and
Segerfors were defeated by Nick Birger and Nicolas Gutsche from Navy, 8-5. Also, Jemersic and Skvarka lost, 8-2, to Albornoz
and John Lucero from Army.
In the second doubles, Mark Hemy (Suffolk, England/Ipswich School) and
Jenkins lost to Mark Maciuch and Bryan Roberts from Duquesne, 8-4. Penaranda and Muller also lost to
AshishBhandari and Rich Offutt from Cornell.
No score for their match was reported.
The Knights will continue
competition at the Cornell University Invitational on Saturday.
